My favorite kitchen corner

I love this little spot in my kitchen. It's very easy to keep clean since it's right next to the kitchen sink and the stove is right on the other side, so it's not a very large area in which to make a mess. We leave that to the rest of the kitchen ;-) 

My favorite part in this little corner of our kitchen is the coffee maker. I found the Cuisinart Grind and Brew coffee maker at the thrift store for $14.00. As soon as I saw it I knew it was a great deal. I just couldn't pass it up. I didn't know until I saw it on line just what a great deal I got.

I love those 3 white canisters, especially right up against the red painted wall. I have been looking for a set of canisters for a long time and I finally found them at Costco. I store the coffee beans in the smallest one, the sugar in the middle one and the flour in the largest one. 

Next, I have a set of 3 wrought iron trivets hanging up on the wall. I bought the whole set on clearance for $10.00. My kitchen is very open and this is actually the biggest wall space we have. On the other side of the sink we have the entrance to the sunroom, so the width of the wall is only about 18 inches. 

That little basket contains the eggs from our hens. We have 5 hens, but only 2 are laying eggs at the moment. The other ones are only 6 months old right now. I hope they will start laying eggs before winter comes. I love having fresh eggs in the morning. I'm sure once they all start laying eggs every day, we'l have plenty of them to share with friends and family. I can't wait!

 

Complete room make-over

      For the past few weeks we've been doing lots of de-cluttering in the kids' bedrooms. So far, we cleaned out the boys' and the girls' rooms. We also bought them each new mattresses. Yesterday we went to Target and bought new bedding for all the beds. We're doing a complete make-over in both bedrooms. The girls helped me with the spackling, sanding, taping and priming the room. We did all the prep work on Wednesday and on Thursday we finally painted the room. We wanted to have it ready for the Friday morning mattress delivery. Adrianna also painted her room this week, but we haven't bought her new bedding yet. Next month we're going to paint the boys' room. Unfortunately, we can't seem to agree on the color. Right now they have "Behr's Winter Wheat," but they want to paint their room red. I don't think we're going to do that.

Garland of Gratitude

My oldest daughter, Adrianna, decided to get all of the kids together to make some Thanksgiving crafts and decorations for the school room/dining room. She went on Family Fun and found some wonderful activities for Thanksgiving. One of the ones that they did yesterday was the Garland of Gratitude. They put the extra leaves on the window for extra decoration. It looks so nice!

They also made a Sign of Thanks with bark, leaves, twigs, and moss found outside in the woods. Instead of writing "Give Thanks," however, they chose to make an even larger sign by writing out "Happy Thanksgiving."

Later today, they are going to make Village People and Pilgrim Place Cards, as well as Turkey Day Awards, and possibly the Tepee Treats, but it might be best to wait until Thanksgiving Day to make those treats!

Purple for Lent

Is it red, or is it burgundy?

Either way, I LOVE this color.
